March 2014: Chris Montgomery, PP-ASEL Instrument Airplane

Congratulations!  Chris Montgomery, Private Pilot ASEL Instrument Airplane.

First Leg of the instrument cross country trip: STE – MSN where a VOR approach to full stop was requested.

Stevens Point Municipal Airport (KSTE): Chris Montgomery, a certificated pilot of single-engine land airplanes, completed instrument flight training with Wanda Zuege, 2010 Flight Instructor Of The Year/Wisconsin.  As a Private Pilot, Chris was authorized to fly passengers for pleasure or personal business under Visual Flight Rules in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC); to fly in weather where the visibility would be 3 miles or greater in controlled airspace.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, Montgomery demonstrated mastery of the aircraft for each instrument TASK performed during the Instrument Practical Test flight with Designated Pilot Examiner, Harold “Duffy” Gaier at the Marshfield Municipal Airport.

Second Leg of the instrument cross country trip: MSN – LSE where Chris requested a GPS approach to full stop.

Under the authority of FAR Part 61.57 of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Chris Montgomery is now eligible to fly by reference to instruments under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC). Known as blind flying, the instrument rating is an aviation flight category that describes flying in weather conditions with less than 3 statute miles of visibility in controlled airspace.

Third Leg of the instrument cross country trip: LSE – STE where Chris demonstrated a DME Arc to a circle-to-land full stop.

February 18, 2014: Chris passed the instrument knowledge test after attending a weekend ground school with Am I High Aviation, LLC.
