To be a Private Pilot you must:
-
be at least age 16 to solo (fly the airplane without an instructor)
-
be 17 to take the flight test (but you can start flight training at 16 yrs.)
-
log at least 40 hours flight time (including a minimum of 20 hours of instruction).

pass the FAA aeronautical knowledge (private pilot written) test.
-
get an FAA 3rd class medical certificate (a basic physical exam).
-
pass the required practical/flight test if you are 17 years or older. |
