------ Give Your Spirit Wings ------
Learning to fly, like learning to drive, happens in three stages:  you must pass an aeronautical knowledge test (the book test), followed by actually taking flight lessons and then pass the flight test. Training with aninstructor may begin at any age, but the student learning to fly an airplane cannot fly solo (without an instructor) until age 16.

Eric Roeske, National Guardsman
Completes Advanced Flight Training
Stevens Point, Wisconsin, September, 2009.  Eric Roeske, 92F Petroleum Supply Specialist with the E Company First 147th Aviation Battalion, completes Instrument flight training and is now certified to fly in weather with visibility below 3 statute miles to flying in clouds with zero visibility.

Roeske earned his Private Pilot-Airplane certificate in 2006 as a high school senior with Wanda Zuege, Master Flight Instructor with Am I High Aviation, LLC. Now a student at UW-Stevens Point, Roeske completed instrument training with John Thompson, Master Flight Instructor with Am I High Aviation, LLC. This advanced instruction requires a minimum of 40 hours of training followed by a Practical Test (flight test) by a FAA Designated Flight Examiner to confirm his safety and airmanship.

The Wisconsin Army National Guard provides trained and disciplined forces for domestic emergencies or other requests required by state law.  Eric joined the National Guards in December, 2005 during his last year of High School.  In 2006, Roeske graduated from Wautoma High School with a diploma, earned his Private Pilot-Airplane certificate with Am I High Aviation, LLC in Stevens Point, completed 7 weeks of basic training in Ft. Jackson, SC and enrolled at Minnesota State University - Mankato.  In 2007, with a twin engine rating added to his Private Pilot certificate, a transfer was made to the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and returned to Am I High Aviation, LLC to complete his flight training goals.

Eric's parents, Martin and Ann Roeske, own and operate the Culvers Restaurant in Wautoma, Wisconsin. His brother, Lucas Roeske, attends Ripon College, playing Collegiate Football.

James W. Fehrenbach

AUG 2009:  James Fehrenbach
Accelerated Course:  Private Pilot
Instructor:  Wanda Zuege, MCFI

Cleared For Takeoff!
Fehrenbach Flys Through Pilot Training in 42 hours.
Stevens Point, Wisconsin, August 15, 2009 -- James Fehnrenbach is a certificated pilot of single engine airplanes under the authority of Parts 61 of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations and is authorized to fly with passengers for pleasure or personal business.

Private Pilot training together with a calculus class kept Fehrenbach busy this summer. A sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Fehrenbach has long term plans to  earn a pilot slot with the USAF and fly active duty for at least 10 years with back up plans if he doesn't get a slot. Next semester, you'll find him studying hard with the U.S. Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) at DET 93 out of Marquette University.

Fehrenbach's "check-ride" with FAA Designated Flight Examiner, Sherwood "Woody" Williams, was divided into two parts: the oral exam followed by a flight test in the Piper Cherokee airplane at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport. Saturday afternoon started with James successfully answering a variety of questions about the flight environment; the airworthiness of the airplane; the rules and regulations of the sky according to the FAA; and the weather they will or will not encounter.

The second part of the checkride is the actual flight test with the FAA examiner. Sherwood Williams observed each flight maneuver James Fehrenbach performed and determined that the future passengers of this new young pilot-in-command will, indeed, be safe.

Pearce Earns Private Pilot Certificate.

Stevens Point, Wisconsin.  July 16, 2009 -- Jonathan Pearce earned his Private Pilot certificate Saturday, July 11th, in a Piper Cherokee (PA-28-140), at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport.

Pearce attended Am I High Aviation, LLCs Private Pilot Weekend Ground School and passed the FAA Knowledge Test in April, 2009. Flight training started June 1st, immediately after the school semester ended. June 17, Pearce was permitted to solo (fly without a flight instructor) and proceeded to fly the required ten hours of cross country time around the state as the sole pilot on board. This is a major event when every student pilot starts to build experience and confidence with their new aeronautical skills. By July 11, Jonathan scheduled and passed his flight test with Sherwood "Woody" Williams, an FAA Designated Flight Examiner.

A senior at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Pearce is majoring in fisheries and biology. Becoming a certificated pilot is a part of his overall resume of skills towards the DNR or goverment agency doing field work.  He is presently on an international trip sponsored by the UW-Stevens Point with destinations to Poland, Germany and Iceland where he will be working with professors and scientists dealing with natural resources issues.  When he returns, he will continue advanced flight training with Wanda Zuege, Master Certified Flight Instructor at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport.
